The [work] ‘Your job of choice after law school’ breaks down the daunting process of finding a job in the legal profession. The episodes are direct and focused, each detailing a different component in the process of applying to a law firm. Unlike more generalised application tips and tricks that are available online and elsewhere, the [work] series provides insights specific to the legal profession. It thus differs remarkably from anything that I have seen to be available to assist law students in the process of applying for a job.
The series starts before the process of applying, asking students to consider their objectives and how they may use them to set themselves apart from other candidates. It then goes through each step of the application process offering an approach to influence recruiters and providing examples of what to do and not to do. This information is general in that it applies across the profession but also specific, outlining the peculiarities of what it means to be a lawyer. I think what strikes me the most is that it makes getting seem a job an achievable task if you harness the skills and tips that are identified. I think the series is informative and breaks down many of the misconceptions about applying for a job in the legal profession. Given the competition amongst graduates in today’s market, I think the advice it provides is invaluable in preparing in the best way possible to get the job you want.
